What Skylar has done

Skylar has traveled nationally to colleges, high schools, and organizations who have invited him as a transgender keynote speaker or performer to audiences ranging from 5 to over 1000 folks.

What Skylar can do at your school/organization

If you have an idea for your school's event, feel free to request it! Skylar is extremely flexible when it comes to presenting and performing; he desires to meet the individual needs of each community, whether that means a basic Trans 101 education, sharing his story with any specific focus (family relationships, choosing a college as a transgender man, experiences in the workplace) or discussing transgender representations in the media.

In the past, a combination of telling his story of coming out as a transgender man, sharing some acoustic music & poetry, followed by a Q&A at the end has been met with great reviews from students and staff alike. An event covering that will typically take 90 minutes, but can be formatted for 60 or less.

He has also lead classroom discussions on university campuses, a great way of starting conversation among students and discussing a wide range of gender and transgender issues; an all day event could include a classroom visitation, dinner with students, and an evening keynote presentation.

"Having you speak at Curry College was a great event. We were very intentional in our programming as we wanted GSA to have a voice on campus. So many students spoke with me after your address and performance and were so thankful that you shared your story. You touched everyone in the room."
- Monique L. Austin, M.Ed., Diversity Coordinator, Curry College

"The LGBTQ+ leadership group that I'm a part of hosted Skylar as our keynote speaker for our annual National Coming Out Week programming. Bringing Skylar to my conservative, Catholic university was a breath of fresh air. He spoke his truth in an authentic, down-to-earth way, and captured the audience's attention with a detailed account of his struggles and triumphs. His honesty was reflected not only in his stories, but also in his deeply touching (and impressive) musical performances. Skylar's reflections on his journey of transition resonated with everyone present, regardless of gender, because he was able to speak to the universal desire for acceptance and understanding. I'd strongly recommend hosting Skylar as a speaker for any event in which the goal is to inspire, broaden students' horizons, or increase transgender/queer visibility." - Anne Williams, Student, Boston College
